History of the SiliconValleySearch.com
Partnership
Linda Tuerk and Jim
Thomas met as rookies at Management Recruiters in 1984. Linda has
one month's seniority over Jim, but Jim is much, much older. They are independent
recruiters who share similar business philosophies, and they enjoy working
together on several projects a year. Both Jim and Linda realize in hindsight
that they were extremely lucky to be put on the "EDP" and Telecom desks 20
years ago, and very grateful to have survived the 2001-2003 "depression"
in those areas. Jim and Linda began joint marketing in 1992, and formally
joined as website partners in 1996.
Linda met John Barry via clients, after hearing
of his high integrity level in the contract services world (harder than ever
to find!). Since working with John on several projects, it became clear to
Linda that John lives up to his excellent reputation. John is also older
than Linda (a requirement for partnership), and even better, his initials
spell "JOB." So we were glad to have him join SiliconValleySearch.com in
1998..
John is President of Software
Images, and in addition to his own development work, he manages several
top-flight applications programmers on various projects. Jim Thomas'
practice is incorporated as "Thomas & Associates." Linda bills as Linda
J. Tuerk, Search Consultant, and is the creator, chief contact, and developer
of SiliconValleySearch.com. She is also responsible for all color choices,
and the "look and feel" of our Christmas cards, something Jim and John don't
seem to care about. "SiliconValleySearch.com" is the name of their website.
Their detailed biographies follow on this page.
New Developments @ SiliconValleySearch.com Since
1997, the purpose of this website has been to encourage the reference checking
of headhunters (you'll spend 4 hours checking dishwashers ), promote ethical
search and hiring practices, and (to be honest) reduce our coaching time
on the phone. We have never had any advertising, obnoxious pop-ups, cookies,
or spam campaigns. We have always considered this a "good karma" site, with
a pretty decent comedy page.
In 1999, SiliconValleySearch.com was well positioned to be a high-quality
referral source for a growing number of industries in several geographical
markets. All of our affiliates subscribed to a code
of ethics, had been in their business an average of 10+ years, and used
their real names all of the time. In 2001-2003, over 90% of High-Tech recruiters
went out of business, and we are presently rebuilding our network for referrals.

John Barry, Software Images
John Barry started programming in Silicon Valley while still a high school student at Saratoga (yes, he looks like that guy, especially around midnight). He earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at UC Berkeley in 1978. As a founder, and later President, of Computerac, John managed the resources of this stable time share computer service from 1980-1988. Branching out on his own as Software Images, John delivered the high level of service expected, demonstrated by remarkable repeat business. His specialties as a programmer, developer, architect, and project manager have included most HP9000 and 3000 applications, EDI, Data Conversions, Image, Inventory, Sales, Service, Financials, Manufacturing, Manman, C, Fortran, Cognos, Cobol, SPL, SQL*Plus, Brio Query, and Oracle. Since 1996, John has acted as a broker for contract programmers, and has enjoyed the same high rate of repeat business in this recruiting and placement practice. One reason for John's success is that Software Images backs up its consultants, and provides a valuable resource as a think-tank should a contractor get stuck on the job. John also provides technical interviewing/screening services as well as general payroll (W-2 ) services. He has never missed a payroll. You can contact John directly via e-mail: john@siliconvalleysearch.com.
Jim Thomas, Thomas & Associates
An independent consultant since 1988, Jim has specialized in Communications/Electronics since 1984. His clients range from Microwave and RF component manufacturers to communications service providers to satellite manufacturers. He has active networks available to him in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations, Sales & Marketing, and General Management. He resides in the Los Angeles area. He works with clients in SiliconValley and throughout California, and occasionally in the Northwest and Arizona.
A native of Buffalo, New York, Jim spent four years in the U.S. Air Force before earning his BA from Cal State, Northridge. Jim spent ten years as a social worker, and five years as an entrepreneur before joining Management Recruiters in 1984. After four years as a resident specialist in High Tech, Jim became an independent consultant.
Like Linda, Jim enjoys a hands-on approach to the search business. As a result, he travels to Silicon Valley frequently to meet candidates and visit clients. He is personally gratified to be instrumental in building departments and divisions. He enjoys a high rate of return in repeat business with existing clients. Jim's references attest to his effectiveness and high regard for ethics, and he will be happy to forward a customized list of references upon request.
Linda Tuerk
Linda is an independent recruiter and search consultant specializing in the Information Systems field. Her area of concentration originated in the ASK, Hewlett Packard, and DEC/VAX manufacturing environments. Since then she has recruited in ERP Applications (Oracle, SAP, PeopleSoft), Internet/Intranet Applications, CRM, Data Warehousing, Networking, and Global Infrastructure. She can also be effective in the areas of Finance, Manufacturing, and General Management in the High Technology arena. She is the founder and developer of SiliconValleySearch.com.
Born and raised in Southern California, Linda received her B.A. from Connecticut College and spent two years with Merrill Lynch before joining Management Recruiters in the summer of 1984. She was designated the Account Executive of the Year for the Pacific Region, CompuSearch Division in 1987 and achieved Certified Senior Account Manager status before leaving to start her own practice. Independent since 1989, it is her goal to meet every person she works with, and Linda spends much of her time "on the road" in the San Francisco Bay Area attending informational meetings, visiting clients, and conducting candidate profile interviews. Linda is particularly interested in working with "sane" companies that enjoy reasonable growth, and maintain a stable executive team (less than 30% turnover average). She is happy to discuss discounts in return for retainers/deposits. (Why should sharing risk cost more!?!) Due to a resume policy that has served to clarify any confusion surrounding the issue of unsolicited resumes, Linda has never been involved in any serious fee dispute. Over 50% of first interviews arranged by Linda proceed to the second round, and over 40% of those result in a hire. More than 93% of offers tendered through Linda have been accepted. 100% of her placements have "stuck" since 1989.
Linda volunteered extensively with the
Glide Job Skills
Program in the Tenderloin district of San Francisco 1995-2001, and taught
similar classes in San Jose for the first half of 2004, before the faith-based
program, San Jose First was cut for lack of budget and corporate contributions.
She also devotes significant time coaching the unemployed in Silicon Valley,
and making pro bono referrals when needed.
When working with SiliconValleySearch.com, initial
contacts go through Linda in the form of brief e-mails. All inquiries
are scanned by human eyes and referred quickly to the proper partner or alliance.
